I'm going to have to get in on this 3-in-1 action

A couple weeks ago I apparently opened Pandora’s shampoo bottle in my post about hair care products.  I got a bundle of e-mails and comments and I thought I should share some of those wonderful comments and  my perspective.  Hugs and kisses to all!

"My office is very quiet today and I am trying not to laugh because I just read your blog for today.  2 in 1 is only used in emergencies or unimportant hair washings (like when it's late and you are all sweaty and gross from working out or yard work).  You also need a variety of shampoos and conditioners because you simply CANNOT use the same shampoo and conditioner too many days in a row.  How do you not know this important stuff?

Interestingly I did buy my boys a 3 in 1---shampoo, conditioner and body wash which proves that this bathing efficiency must be a guy thing.  I told them to use soap though reducing the product to 2 in 1 status."

A couple points here, firstoff, what defines an unimportant or emergency hair washing? Didn't your father ever tell you that anything worth doing is worth doing right? How could it be unimportant? What kind of possible emergency could you have that would enable you to have an emergency hair washing? Is that like, "Oh my house is on fire, I only have time to put one product in my hair before I escape the life threatening flames?" or "The dog just got hit by a car and I need to shower quickly before I rush him off to the hospital?" or even, "There's a 99% off sale at DSW! I need to have an emergency hair washing before I go and reap the savings!".  I don't get it, you are taking a shower, surely that extra minute won't hurt you...it's almost as if you never need to use two different products.

Second, I challenge the fact that you need a variety of shampoo and conditioner.  Why can you not simply use the same shampoo and conditioner too many days in a row?  Is it like some kind of ancient Incan ritual that requires you to switch? I've read a lot of philosophy and never once do I remember Descartes or Plato telling me to think about why I shouldn't use the same shampoo and conditioner every time for the sake of the republic because I am. Is it something like Bloody Mary where if you use the same shampoo and conditioner 3 times in a row something comes through the mirror and rips your hair out?  Where was I supposed to learn this stuff?

Lastly, 3 in 1, I wasn't aware, I'll have to purchase this immediately after I'm done using the products I currently have so as not to clutter up every available surface in my shower.  Why would you ruin their wonderful efficiency by telling them to use soap?  Do you hate America? Are you trying to teach your sons inefficiency?

"‎2-in-1 lessons must be taught at the same place where they teach you to go to the dentist annually - can't wait for that blog. =* Funny how you left out that (other girl) was on my side."

All women are on your side, I actually challenge someone to find a woman who agrees with me.  And as for the dentist, at the very most you should frequent that place once a year. Tri-annual is more like it.  The only thing that needs to be checked annually is your prostate. And even then you can kinda do a lot of the work yourself on that one.  But why would they teach necessary maintenance (like going to the dentist) at the same place as they teach you to inefficiently manage cleaning your hair? Makes no sense.  One is necessary to your health, the other is mind boggling and silly. Shampoo and conditioner has one purpose, to clean and condition my hair, why is it important to do those things separately?

Commenter 3:
"I think you may find it helpful to ask a guy with LONG HAIR who may be more familiar with correct hair products. That being said, I have long hair and have often used 2 in 1 products with no problems, AS LONG AS I also use a leave in conditioner after I towel dry my hair. You could have just bought a leave in conditioner and limited yourself to 2 bottles. I do think another solution, and probably the best one, is to tell your girlfriend to bring her own stupid toiletries and not expect you to supply them. Either she will do this, or she will dump you. Either way, problem solved. "

A "guy" with long hair? Why would I know or associate with anyone like that? I'm a man over the age of 13, I don't have one friend with long hair, I'm struggling to think of anyone who has over 2 inches of hair. A guy with long hair is not a guy in the traditional sense.  But if I have this right you use 2-in-1 and then use more and different conditioner after you use it?  That's way out of my league of understanding, that's like astrophysics while I'm studying geometry. Your solution might be spot on though, very astute.

Comment 1a back for more:
"Your hair gets used to shampoos when used repeatedly so you have to mix it up to keep it from going flat and lifeless (although I don't think my hair can go flat and lifeless). Repetitive use.  It's similar to doing the same workout every day, your hair needs a change to make it better. Plus, there are so many fun products, it would be a shame to not play with as many as possible.

Regarding the 3 in 1, I question how well it does any of them.  You know the saying, 'jack of all trades, master of none.'  Try changing it up and see how nice your hair looks!  :)

Just try.  It's fun, honest.  Of course the next time a girl uses your shower she will question your manhood so keep them hidden."

Again, the purpose is to clean and condition my hair...how does using the same one not accomplish that? Flat and lifeless? I honestly don't even know what that means.  Are you saying that my hair will die and fall out and/or be in the same shape it is now?  The inch or less of hair (and granted I need a haircut) I have doesn't seem to change based on what I do or don't put in my hair...Also fun products? What does that even mean, why would I want to spend money on them, as far as I know there's clean and condition (which I assume means make soft).  What possible other things could these products be doing to my hair? Fire hair? Mo-hawk? And where does fun figure in? How is it fun to clean and condition your hair?
